Twelve year old Krishnaveni resides in Kothur village in Andhra Pradesh. Both her parents are daily wage laborers.
Krishnaveni was not very excited when the local Community Sports Coaches, Laxmi and Sandeep, got a bag full of handballs, footballs, cones and markers to the village. It was only when the ball was thrown up in the air, the excitement began. She now plays with 32 other children in a vacant ground half a mile away from her village. She says “earlier, 3 to 4 girls used to assemble and play skipping but now we have a big group…..I love to play handball and other children enjoy playing relay ball games and are fond of the action song – Bolo Bolo kitne …“.
The sports for development sessions conducted by Magic Bus have given new meaning to her life- she now understands the value of a good education, and realizes that her ambitions do not need be limited to the unskilled labor that her family members have been performing for generations. Even though she has to walk six miles every day to get to school and back, she still enjoys going to school and wants to become a teacher. She also dreams of representing the district and state in handball tournaments.
Your donation, Dennis, will enable Magic Bus to provide a year of sports sessions for Krishnaveni, and allow her to reach her full potential.
